Mr. Matiur Rahman Raju joined the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) green campus in January 2022 as a faculty in the Department of Civil Engineering. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with Dean List Honor for his excellent achievement from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. Furthermore, he obtained M.Sc. in Structural Engineering and Building Technology specially focused on structural design and assessment techniques from the Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden with a prestigious Swedish Institute Study Scholarship (SISS) award. He has published several research papers in both international journals and conferences. Based on his master thesis work, he received the best poster presentation award from the International Conference of Civil and Environmental for Sustainable Development (ICCESD), February 2020, KUET, Khulna, Bangladesh. Previously he has worked as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering (CE) at City University from April 2019 to January 2022. He started his career as a Project Engineer considers managing an overall building project at Trust Alliance Technology Ltd. Furthermore, he worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden in 2018. In addition, he is working as Lab in Charge as an additional responsibility for the Civil Engineering department at IUBAT.
Besides his teaching profession, he is working as a Consultant to evaluate the Preliminary and Detailed Engineering Assessment work and prepare retrofitting designs of an existing building structure. His current completed project with a Joint Venture team comprising of NKY Architects and Engineers (Turkey), PROTEK YAPI (Turkey), Sheltech (Pvt.) Limited (Bangladesh) and Safety Consultants BD (Bangladesh) to accomplish a World Bank-funded national project of Rajuk titled "Vulnerability Assessment and Prioritized Investment Plan for Critical Assets in Dhaka.” The Urban Resilience Project of Bangladesh has an objective to strengthen the capacity of the Government of Bangladesh agencies to respond to emergency events and to strengthen systems to reduce the vulnerability of future building construction to disasters in Dhaka city in Bangladesh.
He is keen to improve the building and resilience assessment technique for a sustainable development. Especially, his research focuses on Structural Monitoring/Assessment systems, Structural Retrofitting/Renovation design, Experimental Techniques in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Properties of Materials, Composite Structures, Numerical Investigations, Subsoil investigations. In addition to research interests, Mr. Rahman is passionate about teaching undergraduate students and developing classroom pedagogy. Mr. Rahman is a member of several professional bodies (Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh, Engineers of Sweden, Sweden, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and SI Network for Future Global Leaders, Sweden)
